RED SOX TEAM AT FENWAY PARK, 1951. Leslie Jones Collection, BPL Print Department.

The lineup of the 1951 Red Sox, positioned here for the National Anthem, contained some of the most famous player numbers in franchise history, four of which are now retired from use and commemorated above the right field grandstand: #1 (Bobby Doerr), #4 (Joe Cronin), #6 (Johnny Pesky), and #9 (Ted Williams).

Fenway Park has long been home to some of the greatest players of baseball lore.

While only eight uniform numbers have been formally retired by the Red Sox, the ballpark has served as the playground for scores of the sport's most famous figures during the past century.
