Press: “DPLA”
“LYRASIS is excited to be involved so early on with the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA). As stated on the DPLA web site, the Steering Committee is ‘leading the first concrete steps toward the realization of a large-scale digital public library that will make the cultural and scientific record available to all.’
“We, along with many of our members, have been, and continue to be, supporters of the idea for a truly publically available digitized national library. The DPLA is on the way to making this vision a reality.
“Our commitment to the DPLA starts with our Board of Trustees, who unanimously agreed that LYRASIS would be involved as much as possible in the DPLA efforts and that LYRASIS should help keep our members informed about the progress of this important and groundbreaking initiative. Two LYRASIS staff members are convening members of DPLA workstreams. Robin Dale, LYRASIS Director of Digital & Preservation Services, is on the Content and Scope workstream, which will work to identify content and articulate a collection development policy for the DPLA. Tom Sanville, LYRASIS Senior Director of Library Services, is on the Financial/Business Models workstream, which will make recommendations about the business model for the DPLA. Other LYRASIS staff, Board members and library members are also active with the DPLA in various ways.”
