An excerpt from a 1982 oral history interview with Gloria Jean Howard mentioning Baldwin’s 1963 visit to Greensboro, NC.
Baldwin visited Greensboro “on behalf of CORE,” or the Congress of Racial Equality. Gloria Jean Howard’s brother, Ezell Blair Jr., was one of the four students who held a sit-in at the Woolworth’s lunch counter in Greensboro, NC, on February 1, 1960, helping to incite the student civil rights movement and inspiring the formation of SNCC, or the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee.
