An excerpt from a pamphlet called The Trial of Frank Kelly For The Assassination and Murder of Octavius V. Catto, on October 10, 1871.
Frank Kelly was a Democratic Party supporter who killed Octavius Catto, a black political organizer, on October 10, 1871. Following the shooting, Kelly fled Philadelphia and was found six years later in Chicago. He was returned to Philadelphia for his trial, which was recorded in this pamphlet. Despite testimony by six eyewitnesses who identified Kelly as the perpetrator, he was acquitted.
