A photograph from the Associated Press of Great Britain documenting Spanish war refugees entering France, January 1939.
Much of the international press coverage of the Spanish Civil War focused on the refugees pouring into France over the Pyrenees frontier. This photo highlights children, made orphans by the war, on the road near the border town of Perpignan, France. They are wrapped in or carrying blankets, their only protection against the bitter cold of the Pyrenees.
