A Japanese illustrated map and chart depicting Commodore Perry’s arrival in Tokyo Bay.
This illustrated map is divided into four parts. The lower left-hand portion shows two American "black ships,” or steamer-sail ships used by Perry. The rest of the lower portion shows Perry’s ships anchoring near Uraga, a town at the opening of Tokyo Bay (formerly Edo Bay). The upper portion of the document includes the names of lords of the fiefs in the Izu and Bōshū provinces and the numbers of men they assigned to the harbor defensive posts.
