The Digital Public Library of America (DPLA) has released a new, custom-built Analytics Dashboard for our Member Hubs. Through this easy-to-use web-based dashboard, our Members now have one-stop access to up-to-date information about how their rich collections of cultural heritage materials are being used.

The DPLA Tech Team has been hard at work this summer on a number of new projects, and we are excited to share some things we have “shipping” out this month.

We are pleased to announce that over 46,000 materials from the Plains to Peaks Collective, which represents Colorado and Wyoming, are now discoverable in DPLA. We are pleased to announce that the collections of our newest Service Hub, District Digital, are now discoverable in DPLA. Led by partners DC Public Library and Washington Research Library Consortium, District Digital brings over 50,000 new materials representing Washington, D.C.’s unique history as a center for education, social and political activism, and culture to DPLA.

Five years ago today, we launched the Digital Public Library of America and in a short five years, DPLA and our partners have turned a vision into a vibrant community.

One of the core goals for the new membership program is to strengthen our partnerships and give our Hubs more of a voice within our partner network and on our work at DPLA, so we are excited to share perspectives on our recent meeting directly from some of our members. DPLA hosted our inaugural Hub Network Members Meeting on March 13-14, 2018, a gathering of representatives from our Member Hubs to map out ways that we—DPLA and our network of partners—can exchange ideas and work together to tackle common challenges, achieve shared goals, and shape the future of DPLA. We are pleased to share the happenings, ideas, and outcomes from the Members Meeting with our broad community.

This week, we’re convening our network of member organizations for an in-person gathering, a manifestation of a program we launched last fall to ensure that our work is grounded in and informed by the reality of the work of our community-based partners.

We are pleased to announce that over 90,000 new materials from Ohio Digital Network are now discoverable in DPLA. As a part of DPLA, students and teachers, researchers, and history buffs can now explore all of these rich collections from across the state in one place alongside millions of resources from our growing network of partners.

In this inaugural year of the Hub Network Membership Program, we look forward to convening an in-person Members Meeting, to be held March 13-14, 2018 in Atlanta, Georgia. The Members Meeting will offer a chance for us to hear from and collaborate with our partners, as well as facilitate sharing of ideas, challenges, and resources across our national network.

Last month DPLA released an update to our Metadata Application Profile (MAP), bringing us up to version 5.0. DPLA Data Services Coordinator Gretchen Gueguen explains the new features in MAP 5.0 and how they will impact our website, services, and partners.

As we prepare to ring in a new year, we are pleased to welcome Digital Maine, which joins Oklahoma, Florida, Montana, Maryland, Michigan, and Illinois, as the seventh new partner whose collections have been added to DPLA in 2017. With Maine State Library at the helm, Digital Maine contributes state documents and records, dating back to the Revolutionary War, as well as materials from local libraries and historical societies across the state.

Welcome, Oklahoma! Over 100,000 records from our newest partner, OK Hub, are now discoverable in DPLA. These collections offer unique new resources, particularly in the areas of Native American history and culture, environmental and agricultural science, and the lives and experiences of generations of Oklahomans.

We are pleased to announce that over 74,000 new materials from Florida’s Sunshine State Digital Network (SSDN) are now discoverable in DPLA. Please join us in welcoming SSDN partners Florida State University, University of Miami, and Florida International University to the DPLA network.

We are excited to welcome our newest hub to DPLA! The collections of the Big Sky Country Digital Network are now available to explore in the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA). The new Montana Service Hub represents a collaborative effort between the Montana State Library (MSL), the Montana Historical Society (MHS), the University of Montana (UM), and Montana State University (MSU). Together, these organizations have made thousands of new resources accessible via DPLA. As with all Service Hubs, Big Sky Digital Network brings its own unique, local history that allows DPLA represent the diversity of experiences across the country and collections that contribute to our common heritage.

Our collections and our partner network are growing! The collections of our newest hub, Digital Maryland, are now searchable in the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA) alongside millions of resources from partners across the country. Through the efforts of Digital Maryland and USMAI, over 83,000 new resources from public libraries, museums, historical societies, and college libraries are now available via DPLA.

We are pleased to announce that the collections of the Michigan Service Hub are officially ‘live’ in DPLA and ready to explore! Accepted to the DPLA network in 2015, the Michigan Service Hub represents a collaborative effort between the Library of Michigan, University of Michigan, Wayne State University, Michigan State University, Western Michigan University and the Midwest Collaborative for Library Services. As of this week, the Michigan Hub partners have made 42,000 new items discoverable in DPLA and plan to add more in the future.

The collections of the Illinois Digital Heritage Hub are officially live in DPLA and ready to explore. Our newest hub from Illinois represents a collaboration between the Illinois State Library, the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI), Chicago Public Library, and, previously a Content Hub partner, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

DPLA Executive Director Dan Cohen and board members Amy Ryan and Mary Minow traveled to Washington, D.C. to meet with Librarian of Congress Dr. Carla Hayden as she signed the agreement Tuesday. While there, Cohen, Ryan, and Minow were treated to a behind-the-scenes look at a selection of the maps that will soon be available to all alongside treasured historical resources from libraries, museums and historical societies across the country.
