The Texas State Library began purchasing books from the DPLA Exchange in 2019 and now has acquired more books than any other library from DPLA.

Today, we are happy to announce the launch of a new and improved DPLA Exchange. We’ve introduced a brand new look, as well as new features to make ebook and audiobook collection development a seamless part of your library workflow

Many of us are feeling a mix of anger, rage, sadness, and fear this fall, particularly this week in the wake of Kentucky authorities’ refusal to hold to account the police officers who killed Breonna Taylor. At the Digital Public Library of America we have been reflecting on our roles and responsibilities. We were founded, 10 years ago next week, with a mission to ensure equitable access to digital knowledge, and at this moment we feel an added urgency to make certain that our deeds align with our stated aims.

All of us at DPLA send a big thank you to everyone who attended our Community + Open Board Meeting on Friday, and a special thanks to Tracie Hall, John Palfrey, and Felton Thomas for an inspiring and thought-provoking conversation about equity, access, and the future of reading. DPLA’s core mission is to make knowledge freely accessible to all, and that mission has never been more important than during the current crisis. As we announced last week in our 90-day plan, we are redoubling our efforts in service of that mission, and that includes working to get more books into the hands of more libraries and more library patrons.

Over the last few weeks, the DPLA team has been, like all of you, striving to adapt to our new reality while also checking in on family, friends and colleagues. We’ve been grateful to hear from many of you not only about the new challenges you’re facing, but about how our community is coming together in new ways to meet this moment and forge a way forward.

The Digital Public Library of America (DPLA) is pleased to announce that we have published a free, easy-to-read epub version of New York City’s Internet Master Plan. The plan, which aims to bring affordable, high-speed internet access to all five boroughs of New York City, was released in January. Previously, it was available only in pdf format.


At DPLA, ebook services are core to our commitment to a library-led digital future. The Digital Public Library of America has partnered with BiblioLabs to offer libraries the ability to license a growing collection of more than 16,000 ebooks, including independent author collections and titles from a number of major publishers, using a simultaneous multi-use model that allows an unlimited number of patrons to borrow books at the same time.

Today we are proud to be releasing a better ebook version of the Mueller report with improvements including links to more than 750 of the original documents referenced in footnotes and format enhancements to make the document more accessible to those with text impairments.

We are pleased to announce a partnership with BiblioBoard’s Indie Author Project, through which a collection of over thirty independently-published books are freely available for anyone to download and read now in the SimplyE app.

The Mueller Report is now freely available in ebook format to read on your phone or tablet from DPLA’s website and the Open Bookshelf collection.
