Press: “John Palfrey: ‘A Future for Libraries in a Digital-Plus Era'”
“On November 29th, 2011, Simmons GSLIS [Graduate School of Library and Information Science] hosted a lecture by John Palfrey entitled ‘A Future for Libraries in a Digital-Plus Era.’ The lecture was sponsored by the Allen Smith Visiting Scholars Program.
“Some people say that there is no future for libraries. In an era of Google and eBooks, the need for libraries, this thinking goes, is diminishing rapidly. In this lecture, John Palfrey takes the opposite viewpoint: that the need for libraries and librarians is in fact growing, not diminishing. This lecture will explore the changing attitudes of young people toward information; the importance of experimentation, innovation, and collaboration in information technologies; and the changing (but increasingly important) role for libraries in a digital age.”
