DPLA releases free January 6th on the Record ebook

Digital Public Library of America (DPLA) is pleased to announce the release of January 6th on the Record: The Investigation into the Attack on the U.S. Capitol, a free ebook compendium of materials related to the attack on the U.S. Capitol and the subsequent hearings held by the House Select Committee investigating the attack. At DPLA, we believe that open and convenient access to information is an essential service core to the role libraries have played in democratic societies for generations. Part of our commitment to maintaining access to information for all is the publication of free, easy-to-read ebook versions of important government documents.

This latest publication includes transcripts of the nine televised hearings held to date, as well as links to the videotaped versions of those hearings and to scores of relevant federal documents, videos, and legal, investigative, and analytical reports, all of which have been permanently archived by DPLA. This release is Version 1, covering materials released between July 16, 2020, and August 23, 2022.  Subsequent versions will include additional materials as they are released. 

January 6th on the Record is part of our Palace Bookshelf collection of nearly 15,000 open access ebooks, which you can browse at palacebookshelf.dp.la or by downloading the Palace Project app for iOS or Android.

January 6th on the Record was compiled and edited by DPLA Curation Corps member Cynthia Bower in collaboration with DPLA Director of Ebook Services Micah May. Special thanks to Digital Divide Data, which provided technical support including EPUB conversion, OCR, and proofreading services. We also extend our thanks to Internet Archive, which has preserved many of the documents we link to in this ebook.

The release of the January 6th on the Record ebook follows our publication earlier this year of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health and The Covid Archive, a finding aid to government documents related to the Covid-19 pandemic. They are available for free download, along with all of the DPLA Publications, which include our award-winning ebook version of the Mueller Report and The Impeachment Papers.
