Yard engine inside streetcar barn, Seattle, ca. 1930
The yard engine was used for hauling freight, particularly coal. The engine would pick up a load at Newcastle, near Renton, and deliver it to the bunkers at the fuel dealers along Rainier Avenue. The engines were also used to haul lumber from the mills in the Rainier Valley, particularly Taylor's Mill at Rainier Beach.
