  • Description
  • Before the late 20th century, unwed pregnant women often went out of town during pregnancy and generally put their children up for adoption. The Florence Crittenton organization was one of a number of private charities which housed and cared for these women and then arranged adoptions for the children. This photographic postcard, probably made between 1907 and 1912, shows the Florence Crittenton Home at Dunlap, Washington, just south of Seattle.
