    The Evergreen Point Floating Bridge, the second continuous roadway across Lake Washington, officially opened on August 28, 1963. The bridge was built to open in the center. Machinery raises a lift span on each side and retracts the central spans underneath.In this view to the east, taken from the control tower during the dedication of the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge, a line of spectators stands along a gap between the two central spans. Behind them is one of the two lift spans, supported by a flanking pontoon. The flanking pontoons house the lifting machinery and support the lift spans. less
