Right here is the area where the water containing the whitish ash is flowing into the uncontaminated blue water and changing it. It shows how the ash moved down the whole water system into the water shed around Mount St. Helens.     Taken in April 1980, this slide shows the ash that is flowing down the water systems. Right here is the area where the water containing the whitish ash is flowing into the uncontaminated blue water and changing it. It shows how the ash moved down the whole water system into the water shed around Mount St. Helens. It was taken from the helicopter as we were flying to inspect the area before the researchers had permission to land. The ash in the water got into the gills of the fish causing them to suffocate. less
