Note on back of item: The new shell will be occupied by conductor Arthur Fiedler and his orchestra of Boston Symphony men when the 12th season of Esplanade Concerts begins Wednesday evening, July 3. The $270,000 used for construction of the shell was a bequest of Maria Hatch for a memorial to her brother, Edward Hatch. The new shell will be faced with granite. The interior where the musicians sit is to be lined with Burma teakwood. Date supplied by cataloger.
