St. Peter's Basilica
View Full Item
St. Peter's Basilica and Square. The most beautiful church in the world and also the largest. Inside is the tomb of St. Peter. The high altar, which stands directly over the tomb, only can have the Pope to say Mass. Directly in back of the High Alter, is the Altar of the Basilica, which above the altar is preserved the original chair used by St. Peter. At this altar they celebrate the more solemn functions, such as the Feast of the Assumption, which I attended, when three cardinals, eight bishops and fifteen priests said Mass. Rome, Italy. Date 08/15/1952.
