He served as the first Chancellor of University of California, Los Angeles from 1951 to 1959. Edwin Ray Guthrie (1886-1959) was a philosopher, mathematician and a behavioral psychologist. Guthrie helped write Chapters in Early Psychology with Stevenson Smith at the University of Washington in 1921. He also developed the One-Trial Learning theory with Smith, for which Guthrie is best known for. Guthrie was also President of the American Psychological Association from 1945 to 1946. John S.
