Sagamore Bridge and Traffic Rotary, Sagamore, Massachusetts

This aerial photograph depicts a northerly view of the Sagamore Bridge carrying highway lanes across the Cape Cod Canal and into a traffic rotary on the Cape Cod side of the canal. At the time of this photograph, both U.S. Route 6 and Massachusetts Route 3 crossed over the bridge from mainland Massachusetts to Cape Cod, with Route 3 ending at the "Sagamore Rotary" and Route 6 continuing south on a stretch known as the Mid-Cape Highway. Massachusetts Route 6A can be seen emanating from the east end of the rotary. In 2006 the rotary was replaced with an overpass known as the "Sagamore Flyover," and Route 3 was truncated to its present southern terminus on the mainland side of the Sagamore Bridge. U.S. Route 6 now continues alone over the bridge to its terminus at Provincetown, Massachusetts.
