It is in the modern Italian style of architecture, and consists of a basement, half beneath the street, and used for business offices; a story above, occupied by banks, insurance and commission offices; and above this the grand hall, where the members of the Board of Trade assemble daily. The building is surmounted by a Mansard roof, pierced with oval windows, the corners ornamented with urns. The entrance consists of four handsome Corinthian columns, from which spring three arches supporting a handsome balcony, underneath which a broad flight of stairs leads to the first floor. On the whole, the structure has an imposing appearance. The building and the ground upon which it is situated cost $400,000. less
