View Full Image
This sketch shows a protest meeting of Grangers shown in the History of the Grange Movement. Disputes arose between farmers and railroads over discrepencies in grain prices and taxes paid for the railroads. Protest meetings never rose to this level in McLean County, Illinois, but a Supreme Court decision, The People v. Chicago and Alton Railroad, ruled that states could have some control over railroads.
