- Description
This Confederate newspaper, published in Knoxville on Feb. 18, 1863 while the city was still in Southern control, contains "Army correspondence" from Vaughn's Brigade, notices of slave sales, rewards for runaway slaves, and lists of deserters from the Confederate Army, a frequent problem with forcibly conscripted East Tennessee Confederates. Gen. John Crawford Vaughn of Monroe Co. commanded a brigade composed of East Tenn. Confederates in the Vicksburg Campaign and later in East Tenn. and Southwest Va.
