Music Stand Design
View Full Image
A hand drawn sketch of a design for a music stand by W. Joseph Carr and the picture that the sketch is based on. The sketch shows the music stand with dimensions and notes on its construction, and was one of multiple pages of sketches. The page from the magazine shows the music stand that the client wanted to have matched in front of green house doors. Joseph Carr was a noted furniture designer, artist, cartoonist and sculptor from Gardner, Massachusetts. He mainly worked for the Heywood-Wakefield Company as a furniture designer from 1936 till the company closed its doors in 1979, but he also did freelance furniture designs for a variety of furniture companies and on his own. Whether this request for a music stand was created by a specific company or whether it was part of his freelance work is unknown. Is part of the W. Joseph Carr Collection, LaChance Library, Mount Wachusett Community College, Gardner, Massachusetts, http://www.mwcc.edu/Html/Library/index.html. For further information, see the Greater Gardner Furniture History Documentary Project website, http://www.mwcc.edu/gardnerfurniture/default.html.
