Is Basket-Ball A Danger? Part One
Part one of a two part discussion article that appeared in Young Men’s Era, the national YMCA newspaper, examining the effect of basketball on the YMCA. The article contains the opinions of several YMCA Physical Directors throughout the United States. The consensus of these Directors is that while basketball is great exercise it monopolizes the gymnasium as the game takes an hour to play thus taking away from class work which they consider to be more important and beneficial. In their opinions, the Directors indicate that basketball is beginning to overshadow class work and that there needs to be more structure as to when it can be played.
