This oval portrait depicts F. R. Wardle who served as the General Secretary of the Cleveland, Ohio YMCA from 1881 to 1884. Mr. Wardle also served as the General Secretary of the Rochester, NY YMCA in 1880. Mr. Wardle also made generous contributions to the YMCA in 1886 (Year Book of the YMCA, 1886). Mr. Wardle is shown looking at this right side as it was customary in photographs of the time.
