Gay Community Center Newsletter, Vol. 1 (3), August - September, 1974
Created Date | 1974 |
Description | The Gay Community Center was formed in 1971 on 102 Cherry Street, close to Pioneer Square. However, by the end of 1972, the rent became too expensive and the community center closed. The Gay Community center re-opened in 1974 during Gay Pride Week at a new location on Sixteenth Avenue. In March of 1976 an arsonist set fire to the community center and destroyed the basement. A month later the Gay Community Center was completely destroyed by a fire set by a Molotov cocktail. |
