  • Ladies' nightcap. Plain white cotton, gathered in back. Ruffle framing cap. Two ties, under chin. Entire cap hand-sewn. L 15 " x W 10. This nightcap was sewn by Mary Todd Lincoln, and given as a gift to Margaret Browne, a housemaid for Mrs. Lincoln. An ancestor of Browne's family later donated the cap to the National Park Service.
