Private Journal at Sea from 1809 to 1819 by Mishipman Isaac Mayo. Mayo's journal includes political commentary and detailed descriptions of battle and life at sea before, during, and after the War of 1812. He served under James Lawrence, who commanded the USS Hornet. Mayo observed USS Constitution immediately following her battle with HMS Java. The handwritten journal is 100 pages long and was written from various ports along the Atlantic coast.
