    The author argues that the geographical change of the location of present-day Pitsanulok correlates with the political change during the Sukhothai and Ayutthaya period. During the Sukhothai period, Pitsanulok was known as Songkhwae, which literally means ""the city on two rivers"". Later, it was renamed as ""Chainat"" and the city center was moved to the other side of the river, when the Suphanburi Dynasty dominated Siamese politics and Ayutthaya became the capital city. It was not until the reign of King Trailokkanat that Songkhwae and Chainat were integrated into Pitsanulok. less
