Party dress of an early settler, ca. 1880
By 1880, well-to-do settlers in Washington Territory could hire dressmakers to design, sew and fit their clothing, and the owner of this party dress may have done so. However, many women continued to pride themselves on their skills, and sewed clothing for themselves and their families.
