The National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA) organized the parade to coincide with the inauguration of President Woodrow Wilson, scheduled for March 3, 1913, the day before. Organized by Alice Paul and Lucy Burns of the NAWSA. An estimated eight thousand women participated in the parade including 500 from Ohio. For the NAWSA Congressional Committee the trip also included a meeting with President Wilson a few days after the parade.
