The Marines, assigned to Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force (SPMAGTF) St. Bernard (named for the local Parish), along with Marines from the 1ST Battalion, 8th Marines (1/8), Camp Lejeune, California (CA), are conducting search and rescue (SAR) missions throughout the New Orleans area as part of Joint Task Force (JTF) Katrina, a multi-service support effort to assist victims of Hurricane Katrina.
