This photograph shows a city street covered in snow during a snow storm, 1898. This street is most likely in Springfield Massachusetts, though the exact location is not known. A handwritten caption on the back of the picture reads "Storm of Nov. 27, 98 by T.M. Brainard." The storm in question was likely the "hurricane-snowstorm" that hit the Northeast on November 26 and 27 in 1898. The storm dumped anywhere from 1 to over 2 feet of snow and gale force winds that damaged much of New England's coastline. Thomas M. Brainard is a graduated from Springfield College, then the International YMCA Training School, in 1900.
