Patent for Briggs and Longstreet's Steam Engine granted by the Georgia General Assembly.
This patent, issued before the opening of the U.S. Patent Office, was the only patent issued by the State of Georgia. The engine was intended for navigational purposes, and this is generally considered to be the first U.S. patent for a steam boat.
