Such crews, which carried the Huskies to numerous intercollegiate racing titles at the annual Poughkeepsie regattas, were first developed by Hiram Conibear, originally ineffectual Washington racing crew coach.Past towering masts of Lake Union's old sailing ships rowed eight University of Washington crew shells yesterday afternoon, as the Husky oarsmen continued their workouts for the 1940 season, begun last week. In the foreground the coaching launch, with Head Coach Al Ulbrickson and his assistants aboard, follows the progress of the young giants who hope to bring Washington victory over its crew rivals when spring and summer roll around.
