This is indeed a pleasant surprise. I imagine the fact that he was in a C.O. camp for a year and a quarter, plus his honest and straightforward conduct, as well as his humble attitude had a lot to do with the judge's light sentence. Ruth says that many C.O.s are being apprehended back east- those who have already served sentence, so she thought Howard may be picked up after his sentence again. Ruth also mentioned that Lincoln Kavai is now in Heart Mt WRA camp. He was taken in custody by army authorities as soon as his sentence at Dupont was served. This, in Lincoln's opinion, is a violation as he would be serving two sentences. At the time of Lincoln's sentencing, the judge offered him a choice between 6 mons. at the Road Camp or probation at WRA camp. Now, it seemes he will be serving both sentences.... less
