- Description
A Dakota beaded wall pocket, circa the late 19th or early 20th century. It is constructed from four pieces of leather sewn with thread to be square at the bottom and tapered to a point at the top; the pocket is located on the lower section. The exterior of the pocket is beaded and the interior lined with red cotton cloth. A short leather fringe trims the bottom edge. The beadwork includes two United States flags with crossed poles, two five point stars and two small floral arrangements, each lazy-stitched in straight rows that do not follow the contours of the image. A leather loop is sewn at the top. Colors used include faceted glass gold, green, red, rose, royal blue and white beads. The wall pocket was made at the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation, South Dakota.
