Excess corn stored outside elevator

When grain elevators and silos were full due to a bumper crop or better technology, excess corn would sometimes be piled on the ground for temporary storage. Corn yields increased rapidly in the 1950s and 1960s. Even high-rise reinforced concrete elevators cannot always handle the crop.
