The high tower supported a wire cable which extended across the river to a high point on the hill. Along this a trolley connected by ropes to a barge gave a ferry service both ways, driven by the force of the current. The steamboat in front of the tower is the "Prospector" The dock where it is morred was built by me on a waterfront site leased for 25 years from the Dominion government which reserved all the waterfront for transportation concerns at a rental foot of frontage, payable annually. Along the left of the "Prospector" a larger steamboat is moored at the combined docks of the White Pass & Yukon Route.
