- Description
This illustration entitled, "Halloween Hoax", by cartoonist Clifford Berryman, which appeared in the Washington Evening Star on October 31, 1912, depicts how the Democratic and Republican Parties react to the news of Theodore Roosevelt's return to the Presidential campaign after the failed assassination attempt on him. While the Republican elephant is worried, the Democratic donkey is happy with the split it will cause in the Republican vote.
