Hotcha Hinton was a regular performer at the Garden of Allah. She was known for her burlesque routines with snakes and her bawdy humor. Hinton was born on June 12, 1915 in a theater trunk. Her mother was an aerialist with the Sells Floto Circus and raised Hotcha in Dayton, Florida. Hinton began dancing in Chicago clubs when she was sixteen and never stopped performing until her death at sixty-eight in 1983. Hinton was one of the last survivors of the hardy breed of burlesque comedians. Hinton charmed and fooled both her audiences and her interviewers into seeing her as a woman. She lived as a woman full-time and was quite pleased to be taken as a woman. less
