Johnson never gained more than a few delegates, while McAdoo was the frontrunner at the Democratic national convention, but was not able to gain the 2/3s majority needed for nomination. Cartoonist Clifford Berryman cleverly shows the fate of "also rans;" both Johnson and McAdoo were nowhere to be seen after their defeats.
