  • The author explores racial relations and Thai identity in past and present Thailand. During the rule of absolute monarchy and early democratic period, Thai identity was largely defined by State, in which minority groups and the underprivileged were prejudiced against. In recent years, however, several ethnic groups have vigorously been asserting themselves and their subcultures in order to become a part of pluralistic Thai society.
