- Description
A note on the verso by printer John B. Sutcliffe reads "This is one of the original copies of the 1st rules of Basket Ball -- copy was given to 'Jimmy' Fletcher late 1892 -- by Dr. Naismith and printed by J.B. and G.W. Sutcliffe;" said also in an accompanying letter. These may be slightly in error: the term "dribble" appearing in the these rules was not known to have been used until about 1894, and rule 7, which stipulates that a goal counts three points and foul one point (as recorded in other versions of the basketball rulebook) was in effect between 1893 and 1897.
