In this document, University of Washington President Allen's interview with Professor Harold Eby is summarized. The interview was conducted in light of the Canwell Committee's accusations against Eby that he was a Communist. The summary opens, "President Allen opened the interview by explaining that the Canwell Committee, in accordance with the promise made previously, had placed in his hands the names of a number of faculty men against whom they considered they had evidence of membership in the Communist party or of subversive activities." Later in the interview, Eby denies ever having been affiliated with the Communist Party. The summary reads, "President Allen...said that he therefore understood that Mr. Eby had never been a member of the Communist Party. In response to this statement Mr. Eby shook his head negatively.". less
