United States Navy submarine SS-28 "H-1", previously SEA WOLF, with crew in Seattle, ca. 1913
The "H-1" was based at San Pedro, California, when this photograph was taken. It was attached to the 2nd Torpedo Flotilla, Pacific Fleet, and operated with "H-2" and "H-3" along the Pacific coast. Built by Union Iron Works of San Francisco, California, the submarine was commissioned on December 1, 1913 at Mare Island Navy Yard, Vallejo, CA. It ran aground on a shoal off the Baja Peninsula on March 12, 1920, taking the lives of four crewmembers.
