Stone figure, carved from nephrite (a type of jade), inlay of unknown materials. Height 11.25 inches. This figure is a representation of the Aztec god Xolotl as a skeleton. Xolotl is an incarnation of the planet Venus as the evening star. On his back he bears an inage of the sun, which shows that he was the god who guided the dead on their journey through the netherworld. Incan Artifacts. 16 History; 17 Geography; 25-27 Fine Arts.
