Physical Department Circular (1925)

This Physical Department Circular, published in 1925 by International YMCA College (now Springfield College), discussed physical education as a profession. The circular had 3 different authors, including Dr. John R. Mott ("The Need for Trained Leadership"), Dr. John Brown Jr. ("The YMCA Training Colleges"), and Dr. J. H. McCurdy ("International YMCA College" and "Physical Education as a Life Work"). The circular discussed the curriculum. It outlines the requirements for each year from freshmen year until senior year. It also outlines the different electives that could be taken each year and how many semester hours of credit each of the courses are counted for. The ciruclar then discusses the faculty, the campus and the buildings, the athletics, the city of Springfield, and student earning power. It ends with McCurdy discussing physical education as a life work. He discusses the objectives in physical education, the relationship of objectives to general education, the type of education needed, and type of leadership needed.
