South End Bridge (Springfield, MA)

This lantern slide shows the South End Bridge (Springfield, MA), which connects Agawam to Springfield across the Connecticut River. It was built entirely from iron in 1878 and cost $116,118. The bridge opened for travel on February 1, 1879, replacing the ferry. A duplicate exists (LS-03-46).
