Description

Deed of manumission dated May 4, 1864 by Arianna (also spelled Arrianna) D. Banks of Howard County, Maryland for her Negro slave named John Anderson. Witnessed by Richard H. Dorsey, Dennis P. Gaither, and Justice of the Peace C. W. Edmondson on May 4 and recorded by Howard County clerk W. W. Watkins on June 7, the document grants John Anderson his freedom to commence from April 15, 1864, the date of his enlistment in the Regiment of Colored Troops in the service of the United States.
