A left-facing profile of the WWII general and two-time President bears the words LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST. Below are the Bicentennial dates, 1776-1976. The Eisenhower Dollar was issued from 1971to 1978. For the Bicentennial year, 1976, a new design was sought for the reverse and the bicentennial dates were placed on the bottom of the obverse. The small globe, symbolizing the Apollo 11 space flight to the moon was eliminated for the Bicentennial year. The Bicentennial coins were first released in the fall of 1975, and their mintage continued throughout the following year. The regular Eisenhower dollar returned in 1977. Silver clad commemorative coins were made at San Francisco, in addition to the circulating version coined at Philadelphia and Denver. Source: http://www.workingmancoins.com/History/DolEiseH.htm.
